First thing this morning, I received a call from our office down in Saltash. Actually, the call was really meant for my colleague.. however, this did not seem to make any difference to Jason, our production coordinator, as we continued to discuss all things Duralock for the entirity of the time my colleague was in a meeting!
Jason, first introduced himself to me as…’I am stardust’. This was just the beginning of things to come! I had been warned/enlightened to his extremely vast knowledge and sponge-like qualities (of his mind) and these proved true as we got talking about Duralock as a company.
Everyone who goes into business strives for the perfect, successful business model. However, for the majority, there is no such thing as a ‘straightforward answer’ to this. As with all companies, success is measurable. Success can be counted as the amount of profit earned, the reputation of the company, the quality of the product and customer service etc. There are so many different qualifying components to create an all-round ‘successful’ business and everyone will take a different stance.
As I was chatting to Jason, many different important factors came up when we thought about Duralock’s company attitude and what have accomplished to consider ourselves a ‘successful’ business. (I tried to come up with a fantastically clever abbreviation for our five main points, but it’s getting late in the day… and quite simply, I couldn’t!)
Be an optimist!

In all situations, there is always a reason ‘not to do it’. However, Duralock has always been a company which strives for a ‘can-do’ attitude. Positive attitudes spread and create an environment for innovation and success. If you believe that your business has a lot to offer, as we do, then emulate this and demonstrate it to others. Nobody wants to do business with a company that doesn’t even believe in its’ own capabilities!
Communication is Key
Having offices in Enstone and Saltash and also having a number of agents across the globe, it is essential that we at Duralock communicate with each other. Our successful communications mean that our company runs smoothly and the word has spread over the globe! We have a group which cover the entire spectrum of skills and attitudes and this makes us work… which brings me onto the next factor…
A variety of skills and personalities have made Duralock the market-leading company that it is today. To improve your business, be sure to never discount other people’s opinions or ideas. As Jason said to me ealier.. ‘there is no such thing as a bad idea, perhaps just an impractical one!’ Try not to limit your company and always allow suggestions as you never know where they might take you!
This comes back to all the points above. Be optimistic in where your company is heading and have grand plans.. at Duralock, we still do to this day and even though we have achieved many of ours, we still have more! This will allow you to see the ‘bigger picture’ when making decisions and give you a goal to aim at, rather than just allowing your company to dawdle. Every company should have these ‘grand plans’. Just remember, every big ‘successful’ company also had seemingly impossible dreams once upon a time!
Take pride in what you do and what you have achieved
Step back, look at what you have done and be proud. We do and we are, but there’s certainly more to come from us!
